Based on the bestselling Crucial Conversations book by Vital Smarts, this course teaches the practice and skills for having difficult conversations. Relationships are strengthened and intractable problems are resolved through conscious use of these techniques.

Learning Goals

  • The course teaches nine powerful skills for working through disagreements and concerns in healthcare to achieve better outcomes for employees and patients.

  • Students will learn how to keep composure when feeling angry or defensive and identify what stories you may be telling yourself. Be clear with themselves and others about what they really want. Share strong opinions without shutting down others’ viewpoints. Create safety so you can talk to almost anyone about almost anything.

Who Should Attend

This course is designed for anyone who deals with conflict personally and/or professionally. This event is only open to staff from a Wyoming Community Health Center clinic. Contact us at contact@wypca.org with questions.

What to expect

  • The workshop is designed to be interactive.

  • A workbook will be provided.

  • Bring a writing instrument and your willingness to learn.

About the instructor

Melissa Martin

Melissa Martin lives to communicate, it is through communication that she continues to be a life-long learner. Melissa is an experienced facilitator of workplace development and college classes. She has applied these skills to assist healthcare systems connect better with their consumers and each other for better health outcomes. She delivers relevant, engaging content to students and professionals. Her areas of expertise include communication, inclusivity, workplace success, strategic planning, visioning, team-building, and professional development.

Melissa is a certified facilitator for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, Five Behaviors of a Functional Team, DiSC Personality Assessment, Bridges out of Poverty, Crucial Conversations, and Workplace Stability. She lives in a multi-generational household where she enjoys Sunday dinners with family and friends. When she’s not teaching, she likes road trips, walking her dog and cooking for her family.
